The "Mood Ring" of the 1970s

13932.jpgThe mood ring was invented in the late 1960’s and had it’s hay day as a very popular fad in the 1970’s. The mood stone changes color, supposedly according to your mood when worn. I remember having one and checking my mood during the day. It was a fun thing. There are contemporary versions of the original being made today, but they are not quite the same as the oldies.

Now, the question of the day is, "Can the Mood Stone really tell my mood?" Not exactly! The stone is really a hollow quartz or glass shell that contains thermotropic liquid crystals. Changes in temperature cause the crystal to reflect different wavelengths of light which changes the color of the stone. The idea of the mood stone is based on the theory that body heat fluctuates during different emotional states. How accurate is this? You can be the judge!

Here is a list Interpreted Mood Colors:

* Black - Serious, Intense, Aloof, Mysterious ( cold temperature)
Violet Blue - Happy, Romantic
* Blue - Calm, Relaxed
Green - Average, not much going on with you!
Yellow/Amber - Tense, Excited
Brown/Gray - Nervous, Anxious
